Certificate III in Painting and Decorating



We deliver the nationally recognised Certificate III in Painting and Decorating CPC30608.

The course consists of Core Competency Units which cannot be substituted and Elective Competency Units, which can be chosen by the apprentice.

Apprentices looking to complete the Painting and Decorating course will undertake a four year period of training. Individual training plans are developed based on apprentice and employer needs. Specific training sessions are arranged in consultation and cooperation with the apprentice's employer.

  • Colour Matching
  • Use Painting and Decorating Tools and Equipment
  • Preparation of Surfaces for Painting and Decorating
  • Brush and Roller Application
  • Apply Stains and Clear Timber Finish
  • Apply Texture Coatings
  • Spray Painting
  • Apply Decorative Finishes
  • Wallpapering
  • Remove/replace Doors and Door and Window Furniture

The Building Skills Centre has a number of trainers and assessors, qualified in particular disciplines or trades. More than likely each apprentice will have the benefit of two or three trainers through the duration of their apprenticeship training.

Painters and Decorators apply paint, varnish, texture coatings, wallpaper and other finishes to protect, maintain and decorate interior and exterior surfaces of domestic, commercial and industrial buildings and other structures.

Painters and Decorators need to:

  • be physically fit
  • be able to work at heights
  • enjoy practical work
  • have good hand/eye coordination
  • have normal colour vision
  • have a good sense of balance
  • be able to work independently or as part of a team.
