The Building Skills Centre is a Registered Training Organisation (Registration number 20969). We concentrate on delivering training to rural areas, particularly where there is no other training provider.

The Building Skills Centre delivers the National Training Package BCG03 Certificate III in General Construction (various disciplines) to apprentices in the building industry. Training is delivered throughout central and western Victoria, south eastern South Australia and central Queensland. This training is carried out under approved apprenticeship programs funded by the Victorian, South Australian and Queensland governments.

Training is carried out in the trades of Bricklaying/Blocklaying, Painting and Decorating, Solid Plastering, Carpentry (Framework/Formwork/Finishing), Roof Tiling, Wall and Ceiling Lining and Wall and Floor Tiling. Training is delivered for traditional employment based building apprenticeships and school based apprenticeships.

Training is delivered locally, wherever possible, thereby minimising the time that an apprentice is away from work and home.

Theory and skills training sessions are carried out in our fully equipped commercial premises at Ballarat, Bendigo Hamilton, Warrnambool, Mount Gambier and Mackay, utilising current industry equipment and materials. We also utilise premises at other locations for class activities through Group Training Companies, Councils of Adult Education and other private or community centres.

The key to the training program is flexible delivery and an emphasis on the individual's training needs. Individual training plans are developed for each apprentice depending on their capabilities. Off the job skills training is specifically targeted to cover the apprentice's skills gaps that cannot be developed on the job.

A feature of the off the job training sessions is the development of an integrated approach to assessment to Units of Competency. This is achieved by an apprentice working on a model that incorporates a number of Standards and the Unit of Competencies around those Standards.

Our trainers are local trades people who are currently working in the industry and therefore are widely known and respected locally and have up to date trade knowledge and skills.

The Building Skills Centre is approved by WorkSafe Victoria to be a provider for the Course in Construction (OH&S Induction) 21883VIC 'White Card' formerly known as the 'Red Card'. Bookings for this training can be made by contacting Rosa Anderson on 0447395360.

The Building Skills Centre is also an accredited trainer in the Elevating Work Platforms Association Trained Operators Ticket. Training can be carried out on site, on a fee for service, basis.
